Great site you all have here...

I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri Bowrider 1700. I need to replace the majority of the vinyl on the interior of the boat. I need some assistance in how to remove the padded, vinyl covered, boards that run around the inside of gunwhales. Also are the rear seat backs on each side of the motor attached in the same way?

Thanks in advance for any help I can get. I will be undertaking a re-decking and carpet project sometime in the near future and will probably ask for some pointers on that as well.

Re: Bayliner Question

Does it have any buttons along the middle of the board? Well, not really buttons, but generally they are vinyl covered pieces that match the rest of the upholstery. If it has those, give one a quarter of a turn. You should see a tiny hole in the vinyl underneath where they shot a screw thru it to hold the board on.

If you don't have the buttons, reach up behind the gunwales and check for bolts.

Re: Bayliner Question

Or, it could be like my boat.... Somehow the side pieces and seat backs were screwed on underneath the upholstry. I have no idea how it was done, but all of those pieces were screwed to the sides of the boat below the upholstry.... no way to get to them w/o cutting the interior.

oooo! ooo! I know! I know!

They're screwed directly in through the front, hidden in the bottom of the pleats.

Open the pleat up as wide as you can, and probe with an icepick...you'll find the phillips head... Be careful getting them out, the ss is soft and will strip/snap easily...

I learned this by destroying mine:)

Re: Bayliner Question

Thanks all. The side panels are screwed on from the front, screws hidden in the vinyl folds. Now I just have to figure out the rear seat backs. I think they may be screwed in from the back, but I can't see the manufacturer taking the time to attach them that way.
