I have a '79 Bayliner 28 ft. with a 270-t outdrive and a 350, the steering is cable and we have 2 helms, one on the fly bridge and one on the cabin. The cabin one is turning the outdrive to both sides, the one on the lfight bridge is not, but it is moving the cable. Is there any chance to get a diagram or a schematic of the area where it shows the splines in the fork, the tiller arm, the steering helmet, and the bushings. I need them so I can find out which part has failed in mine.

Thanks a lot,

Trobador.

You can get the oem manuals for the engine and drive here. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=2360521#post2360521

However, if one helm works and one doesn't the splines on the helmet and steering fork are not your problem as they work with one of the helms.
I would bet you have a bad cable on the fly bridge. It will probably push to one side, and not pull it back because the cable is broken.

Re: Bayliner steering problem

The cable moves both ways. What I see is that five inches from the end it has like a metal ball that i think came out the bracket that is attach to the transon, what is the name of that bracket? Is the bracket job to hold the ball in place?
Thanks,Trobador
