Bayliner Trim Problem

I have a 2001 Bayliner Capri 195 with a MerCruiser 4.3 and Alpha 1. My problem is: Every so often my trim will not work, no up, down or trailer. It seems if I jar or slap around the shift lever it will work for a while (loose connection or faulty switch?). When it does not work it will not click the solenoid. I have thought of taking the shift lever apart to check the switches or bridging on a back up switch.
Does anyone else have or had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... Check the wiring connections at the pump, Especially the Grounds...
It could be in the controller, but more likely at the pump...

First thing I would do is cross the connection on the solenoid so your putting power directly to it and see if it works...if it does then its your switch. Thats easier than tearing your shifter apart anyways. Let us know how that works, if it still doesn't work then its got to be the wiring to the hydraulic motor or the hydraulic motor itself.

Sounds to me like it's in the switch in your shift lever.Sounds like the red (+) hot wire in the shifter is loosing contact sometimes and not sending power back through the blue/white (up) and green/white (down) wires to the pump silenoids. Especially if it works after you slap it around.
