Still learning some areas off the Left Coast of Florida. Since moving to this area from Tampa about three years ago and not having another boat untill a year ago, we are still on a learning curve.
The guy at the bait house directed us into 12'-14' of water west of the Bayport Rocks tower. We went to a large marker buoy and used the sabikis to gather up grunts, pinfish, greenbacks and a couple small squirrelfish.
Motored out the three miles and hit the depth. Still have grass flats this far out and finally located some. Freelined a pin and about the time it settled a foot a hook up!
For the next four hours, I could hardly keep up with my wife and daughter as we all pulled fish after fish over the gunnel.
Four undersized grouper, two large spanish macs, two gator trout 20", a dozen other specs around 14-16", a couple of black sea bass and one very hardy lemon or sand shark about three feet. He just tore the line off the lightweight rig we were using and headed west. Finally got him to the boat after a 30 min fight. We tossed everything back but the macs and big trout.
Definitely locked in the waypoint!
Rare to find grouper and sea trout in the same hole...
Took afew minutes to post this. The grill is warming up, the mackerel and big trout are wrapped in tin foil with butter, lemon and lemon pepper spices on em and we are about to dive in.
