I've been reading all these accounts of inconsiderate boaters and their big wakes with interest, as it brought to mind an incident that occurred last season involving a 42' Chris Craft. There is a long, 200 yard "putt" as I refer to it as that runs along the length of our marina where I put in. Once past the marina, you enter the main lake body where you can throttle up.

I was heading in with my father and 5 year old son one evening. As we idled along through the "putt", we noticed a cruiser coming perpendicular to us ahead. He swung it into a yawing turn and basically headed straight at me. I laid on the horn and he made a minor adjustment to avoid me, yet still passed within 5-8 feet of me. He was at that pre-plane speed where the boat is generating as large a wake as possible. We hit his wake in my Skeeter and not only took water over the bow, but struck the floating tire break. My dad yelled at the cruiser to no effect, but I made a mental note of the boat's name - "Warming Hut". The Warming Hut is a local ski shop, so the next day I looked up the owner and e-mailed him. He responded immediately that he had sold the boat through a broker the month before, and that the name was Coast Guard registered. He was VERY upset that a boat bearing the name of his business was out there creating problems. 2 weeks later I got a follow up. He threatened legal action if the name was not immediately removed and referenced my incident. The new owner complied and all is well, but it was nice to have my concern acted upon so quickly.

Yeah, it was Lake Lewisville all right. I put in at Stewart's Creek Park, which is in The Colony. The marina you have to go past to get to the lake is Pier 121.

I was happy with his response and believed it to be truthful. I suppose he could have spun a slick lie like that to placate me, but to me the follow up and little details were not indicative of someone being untruthful. The Warming Hut sells wakeboards, snow skis, and accessories for both.

There are alot of people like that on Lake Lewisville. Especially the BIGGER boats. I don;t understand why Lake Lewisville doesn't hold up the rule of the orange flag skier/tuber down. I was pulling my daughter on a tube in a cove and she fell off the tube. Before I could get whipped around, a big bad Donzi was headed straight for her doing 70+ miles an hour. Waving the orange flag and screaming of course did not help, if finally had to stick my boat in his path. It seems if you don't own a $100K boat you don't have any rights.

Sorry just ranting........

I'd love to see a bold, lighted sign bobbing above the No Wake buoys that warns -

"NO WAKE ZONE - ENFORCED BY SNIPER"

...and by god there's a job I'd do for free.

It's not just the 100k Donzi boats either, it's the wakeboard boats and the screaming attitude of F.U. that blast from their 1000 watt stereos who barrel into lazy coves where people are fishing. If you flip them off or otherwise show irritation, they'll come back 50 more times. I hate the wakeboard boats and the spoiled youth that drive them with a sick passion. If I did not fear incarceration, I'd tie on the biggest, baddest triple treble hook striper lure in my box and snag me a sniveling Abercrombie & Fitch wannabe loser by the neck.

Sorry, just ranting....

where we boat and dock is a river dock....at the first of the yr, a bunch of us were tied to the river dock washing and waxing and generally getting our boats ready for the season...this huge Butt head comes up the river throwing a wake you could surf off of....everyone up and down the river is honking horns...throwing things .....yelling...your name it..then we all had to grab our boats to keep them from climbing onto the docks......idiot was totally and completely oblivious to anything going on around him.....I'd love to have found that idiot and out a couple of rounds thru his waterline!!!....

Well, that's a different story, altogether. If such a thing happened to threaten my child (or any child, for that matter), I'd follow up on it and make sure that the idiot in the boat understood what he had done. I'd try to have the police or lake patrol help with that.

I'd then look for another, quieter place for my kids to tube.

A good sharp 14/0 snag hook should do the trick.
If more people would think this way, those idiots would be a lot fewer and farther between.

This type of behavior is exactly why my wife and I have put our boat up for sale. Going to purchase a smaller boat for the electric only type lakes so we can fish in peace and not worry about the epidemic of idiocy that seems to be a plague at our local lake(s). It used to be very relaxing to get out for some early morning fishing, but it's even crowded with morons in the morning now.

Hey Jason, wakeboarders also hate people to mess up their wakes. If they're inconsiderate, it's tempting to create some ripple and rid them of the glassy water they're looking for. It's real unfortunate a driver's license is not required for driving a boat...

Hey, jenoble1, we have a lake in central kentucky - Cedar Creek - that's fishing only. No recreational boats and no jet skis. Plus there's tons of flooded timber. It's pretty nice to only get others of like interest, and for the most part, they're pretty respectful. I've had one oblivious pontooner, and one guy that just glared at me as he motored by too close to my fishing spot. There's no way to rid the world of all the idiots...
