I have a 1971 6102e evinrude 6hp can some one tell me if it has upper and lower bearings and seals. Or if it has bushings. The parts diagram does not list either one. It lists an upper seal but not one for bottom.

The crankshaft has a set-up of wonderfully designed bushings.----Hardly ever see them worn.-----And there is a mechanical seal for the bottom.-----Another wonderfull design.-----You will find it listed on the gearcase parts page.----At the top of the drveshaft.

Would it be fine to mix at 40:1 full synthetic just to be on the safe side. I also have a Johnson 4r74r 4hp. Has a needle bearing and seal up top the service manual doesn't show anything for bottom. I'm assuming it must be a bushing but no seal like the 71 6hp

I stated 50:1 for the mix on the 6 HP.------So that is the correct and safe mix.--------But I have often said that lubrication on 2 stroke outboards is NOT WELL UNDERSTOOD and therefor there are many theories about it !!

50:1 , especially if you are using synthetic is all you need. Using more oil is a waste of $$, can accelerate carbon build up, and does not do much for our lakes.
