Just remembered a funny one.. I was 10 and fishing for trout in the Trinity River.. I would bring pole, worms, tackle, sodi-pop, and piece of jerky.. Just the proper things to fish with.. I'm only down there for least 30 minute when I hear the big splash across and down the river.. But really couldn't see anything , the sun was casting shadows on that side of the river.. Well I keep fishing and there it goes again and this time I was able to see this big black blob.. I kepted looking and fishing, becuase I'm curious.. Pretty soon the blob got back into the water and so did a smaller one by the shore line.. I just about panic, I realized that the blob now is in the water coming up stream. That is when I dropped my pole and slowly took small rocky steps back.. Becuase I have no idea how fast a bear could run if it is upset. I heard stories and I didn't want to be a head-line in the local paper. As soon as I was cleared of the rocks and bushes I ran so fast back up the Timber Lodge, white as a ghost.. Got to the bar and told Big John all about the Huge, huge bear with a baby cub. Wouldn't you know a few of the local guys chuckled. My mom asked me wheres the pole?.. I left it of course.. So we went back down there to get my pole and to see the huge bear.. Sure enough there was a Bear and a small cub on the otherside.. But it was a small black bear.. Of course everyone teased me at the bar when we returned.. At that time kids could still go in the bars and stay until 8pm and play pool.. Being a kid was fun, but that bear scared me good.. The best thing was I had a 14" trout on my line when we came back..
