I have a chance to buy a good running 6hp johnson for $150. Is there anything I could do to beef it up like different carbs or something. Or just run as is because it would be cost prohibited.

thanks

Not really anything you can do. The modifications go much deeper than exterior components.

It's a bulletproof engine, if cared for.

The 6hp IS beefed up. It started life back in the 1950s as a 5.5! That's an 8.3% increase right there!

If you really need more kick, get a bigger motor... the 6hp Johnrudes are among the best motors ever made. I'd leave it be...

Fair enough: I"m going to use it as a kicker on an 18ftCC. Just wondering if it could be juiced up at all; but for $150 I don't think I can go wrong.

thanks for the replies

You did good on price. I paid $600 for a 1975 6hp in late June.
