Yesterday, I was at my In-Laws home and there is a good sized lake behind the home, and there was a guy with a 10ft Jon-Boat on the bank, about 200ft from us. i noticed he had a BRAND NEW 90hp outboard on that thing!!! the first thing that came to my mind was that thing is gonna sink as soon as it hits the water...well he was determined to drive it, so he had 3 other guys (by the way they are all very drunk) get in the front to act as a counter weight (i wish i had video of it) so they get the thing in the water and the water is about 2 inches from top of the hull. he starts the motor and i hear the guys wife yell " ARE YOU SURE THIS WILL WORK?" and he replies, "I KNOW WTF I'M DOING!!" and then tells his buddy in the boat "HERE, HOLD MY BEER!" (I know, "famous last words right) so he gives it a little gas and it starts going and they look ok, but then the guy driving yells "HOLD ON!" and goes WOT!! and...........that my friends, is when it happened. yes, the transom came right off!!! and as for the boat, well, it wasnt a Whaler, so down it went! as for that brand new outboard, well, lets just say the owner is storing it in Davey Jones?s Locker!

I guess he had more money than brains.

It's wonder that the motor didn't do a 180 when the transom caved in and bring the spinning prop in on them.

i've heard that warning before, and all i've got to say is think about it. lol. the prop pushes the boat, there's no way for a motor to flip up into the the boat...unless you were going in reverse. sorry for off topic...but yeah, I wish I could have been there to see that.

Dang, wish I would have been there and I would have let him have my 1978 85 hp for the 90hp. At least something good would have came out of it.

That's just about when you get in your boat to do some 'fishing' with your braided steel line and a gaff :)

I'd definitely be back there with some rope and a gaff of some sort. If it's in Florida most lakes aren't that deep especially close to shore. Sounds like there's a free 90 out there for salvage. Or at the least make a few bucks to offer to recover the motor for the knucklehead.

A Coupla "Wild, & Crazy Guy's" fer sure

Talk about the prop coming up, and almost creating havoc! When I was a kid, one of the guys I knew from the neighborhood, borrowed a 12' racing type rowboat, and put a new 12hp Scott Atwater on the back, he was zipping along in all his glory, when the motor just rolled up sideways (from prop torque), and fell off the back  He was ok, and recovered the motor, but I'm sure he learned to tighten the motor clamps good after that!

Now that you mention it I guess the transom would pull out rather than push in.

A motor that sank running is not going to be worth much; you have a couple of hours to tear it all down after you raise it. But it can be done (I went back and read that it looked like a brand new motor).

Re: Beer & Boats...The Funniest Thing I Have Ever Seen!

That's very similar to an incident that I witnessed. I was fishing a tournament and it was close to check in time so I was within sight of the ramp. Well, I said to my partner check out this guy. It was a jon boat with a tiller engine. A rather large female passenger sat in the front and a mid-twenty guy on a tube being towed behind. They were struggling to get going which was funny enough to watch already. Just as we were commenting on how that boat and motor is too small for all that weight let alone pulling a tube. They got out of the bay and the driver WOT it. The motor came right off the boat. I laughed so hard, dang near pee my pants.
