I'm new to boating. I have a 25 foot pontoon with a 70 hp Johnson. They are both 99 models bought new. What do I need to do to maintain this motor for saltwater use. I get to go out about 1/month. Thank you.

Hi, Driver.

Welcome to the best help site in the universe.

Your question is far too general to answer in a single post.

I can suggest two things:

1. Get a Repair Manual for your engine. The aftermarket manuals sold here: http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html are more oriented toward the backyard wrench, though the OEM manuals give more detail and are oriented to the pro.

2. There are over 100,000 posts in the iboats archives. Many of them address subjects you may find of interest. Do some browsing here.

Good luck. :)

Re: Beginner

The best thing I can suggest is to flush the motors with fresh water after each use if possible.

Tilt it up out of the water and flush it fresh water through it every time it is out of the water. ALso replace the impellor every year.
