bell housing work

I am rehab'g my bell housing - any tricks to removing the 5/16" and 5.8" bushings for the shift shaft? The exhaust does a number on those shift shafts- I also have excessive play on bottom bushing- thought I would replace both

Mercuiser has tools for removal and installation of that bushing part# 91-805057A2
