Bellows adhesive remover ?

I have a can of Varnish/Stain remover in the garage. Would that be okay to use to remove the adhesive from the gimble housing? The boat shop recommended Acetone. Any opinions/recommendations either way would be appreciated.

Ayuh,... Just a plain ole green scrubby pad does Wonders....
