I am replacing the bellows boots. I have the outdrive off and all the boots off. I cannot get the shifter cable slide off the get the cable loose to replace the shifter cable boot. I have an alpha one 1991 outdrive. Do I have to replace the cable or is there a way to get the slide off the cable without cutting the cable stop off the end of the cable. All went well until I hit this snag. Please help. The book just says to remove the slide from the cable. Well I am trying!!!!!

Re: Bellows Boots

what i did; same problem. nut is brass and a normal wrench/socket would not remove it. modifyed a socket and it started to round off the nut. i pulled the cable loose from inside the boat and pulled it thru the transom. lubed cable with wd40, slid boot over cable. be sure boot is slid over cable in right direction. pushed cable back into the transom and reattached. write down measurements and draw a sketch of how cable is attached inside boat.
