Bellows replacement

Hi all, Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive.

Is it possible/practical to change the u joint and exhaust bellows correctly without removing the bell housing?
Shift cable and its bellows is good.

No, not really. You will need full access.

Aren't special tools needed to take the bolts out?

There is a tool you can buy. It is just a star socket. I bought one for a few bucks. You can use an allen key though.

FWIW, here is my thread on replacing the bellows on my twin Bravos. They are pretty much the same as the Alphas so you can get an idea of the parts and tools needed.

One of my dockmates replaced both bellows in his year 2000 gen 2 drives without taking the bell housing off. It wasn't easy though.
