live in Canada so it is still cool here,I am selling my boat it has a 1976 70hp johnston on it someone wants to come and hear it run if I start it and if there is some water in the engine that may be frozen yet will I damage something by starting it.

If you stored the motor in the full down position, there is no water left inside. After you run it make sure you store it in the full down position again to allow the water to fully drain. If you did not allow the water to fully drain out in the fall, starting it up with ice inside of it is the least of your problems. You have likely damaged things already.
