Belt Replacement / Removal Question

I have a GM Inline 6cyl (L6) 250 cid. The belt that goes around the alternator, crankshaft, and water pump pulley?s disintegrated...do I need to take the front engine mount bolt out and jack up the front of the motor to put the new one on?

It looks as if that's the only way, wanted to make sure there is not an easier way before I go through all that.

Thanks

i always use a cherry picker on the eye of the thermostat housing jsut to hold the weight but you can jsut remove the mount i jsut find the cherry picker works best and easier to line up the mount and bolt holes after

Re: Belt Replacement / Removal Question

Thanks for the tips guys...always appreciated.

I think I will just pull the bolt out and slide a couple 2X4's underneath it and pry it up...I only need like an inch of clearence.

Could lifting the front of the motor up (even just an inch) without loosening up anything else (rear mount, outdrive) damage anything?

Ayuh,... The portside of the mount should come right out of the way, after removing the 2 bolts through it...
No reason to pry or jack Anything...
