Is there a way to bench test a power steering fluid cooler from my Volvo Penta 5.7? If it matters, it's in a 1999 Chris Craft. I'm loosing power steering fluid (2 12 oz bottles over four days use) and I can see some in the bilge area with water we drag into the boat, but it doesn't look like 24 oz. I don't feel fluid on or around my pump or on/around the actuator or even on the hoses. I'm wondering if the fluid is escaping through the cooler, but that wouldn't explain why I do see some fluid in my engine compartment. I've removed the cooler and visually it looks okay, but thought about putting a little pressure on it to see if it would hold.

Depends on the fittings
If fittings are NPT thread then find NOT fittings to connect a air compressor to, and block off the other end

If there inverted flare can do the same just harder to find the fittings

Ayuh,..... Use brake line fittings to plumb air into the oil side, drop the whole thing into a bucket of water, 'n pressurize to 'bout 15 psi,....

PS coolers are tested at the factory to 100 psi

Your local radiator shop can not only test it, however repair it. The core is brazed, the bells are soldered

However most likely you need new hoses. PS return hose is $3/foot at NAPA

Pressure side can be made by any hydraulic shop
