Check the ground on the back side of the pump and where it is terminated to. That is the only commonality between your tabs and the motor...

Bennett rim tabs operate on a 15 amp fuse, so it's not likely that the tab pump is drawing down all your battery voltage due to excessive current draw.

My guess is a bad connection at the helm or battery that's preventing the full +12V from getting to the + side of the ballast resistor in the ignition coil circuit, from the + side of the battery, whenever the trim tab pump draws some current and causes a voltage drop.

kenrahe,

Can you tell me what type of boat and how old the Trim Tab system might be? Also are the moving when you operate them (it's not clear in your post).

Seabob and Mischief Managed are on the right track. I would suggest that you clean all the electrical connections in the system, paying particular attention to both ends of the black ground wire at the pump.

Let me know what you find and I will be delighted to help get the problem fixed.
