Tabman,

I have a 2011 Tahoe Q7i and would like to know if a Bennetts trim tab system would help with getting a skier out of the water quicker? My boat is 20' 6" and I have a 220 hp 4.3 MPI V6 motor. I have read about the auto adjust tabs etc. I don't want to spend a fortune but do want tabs that would work. We use our boat on lakes mainly. It would be great to be able to handle the chop on the bigger lakes at the end of the day as well as better fuel economy for all day of skiing and tubing.

Also...do trim tabs hinder wakeboarding?

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

I did a little Google search to see if I could find a picture of the transom of your boat, but could not find a good one. If you could post a picture of your boat's stern that would be really helpful in selecting the best set for it.

Trim Tabs are great for skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, etc.. They will most let you get a skier up faster by increasing the lift aft. On my old Aquasport the Trim Tabs made all the difference pulling skiers and tubers, I could adjust the size of wake depending on what I wanted with a combination of power trim and the Tabs. One of the best features was that I could pull younger or beginning skiers at a lower speed while still on plane at a lower speed. Later in the day I could still make a big wake by raising the Tabs and moving the power trim out so the kids on the tube could get some air. I really didn't do any wakeboarding but the wake I made would be no doubt good for it as well.

I have had the opportunity to work with several watersport boat builders who now install a single "wake plate" system on their boats so the wake can be adjusted to accommodate different needs. As you probably know those wake plates are pretty standard these days. You will get the same basic results with a little practice.

I would recommend not installing the Auto Tab system to start since it is best suited for cruising versus the type of boating you are interested in. Getting the Tab Position indicators would be a good idea to help replicate the settings you want for a big or little wake.

I hope this is helpful.

We don't primarily wakeboard that is mainly my son and daughter. My wife like to water ski...and me will I am still trying to get up ont he wakeboard..lol I want something that will help me in all aspects throughout the day...especially in manaurverability and fuel economy. We experience a lot of the chop in the afternoon at our lake...not to mention having to cut through wake after ate in some areas of the lake. It is very frustrating to have to slow for all sorts of wakes.

I have read about the Bennett's tabs as well as a few others. I don't want to spend a fortune because we need other things for the boat as well. I will try to get a pic posted, however a I don't know how to post them on this site.

Tabman I did send you an email of the boat pictures. I tried to load the pics here but maybe they were too big in file size and I did not want to resize them. Thanks!

I started a new thread here so that we do not confuse it with the previous thread :)
