we have had a lot of discussion on here about 2 stroke oil but what about 4 stroke oil. i'm getting ready this weekend to change the oil on my 4 stroke. so has anybody had any good or bad experiences with one brand of 4 stroke oil or another? they seem like they are all about $8 per qt though i did see an off brand for $5 per qt. and we have discussed the down side to synthetic in an outboard but i noticed most of the manufacturers now offer a semi synthetic and a dino oil. any body had any experience with the semi synthetic as far as "making oil"?

thanks for the good read on "making oil" because my motor fits into the long hours of trolling catagory. but it doesn't address the dino/semi-synthetic question.

how many hours do you use your outboard a year? I Run a semi synthetic SH grade oil in my Johnson 4 stroke. No need for expensive full synthetic unless you amass hundreds of hours a year, 99% of people don't use there outboards enough to "use up" the oil additives in 1 years time.

i bought Honda oil today at the dealer. there only was dino oil in the Honda brand. it was $6 per qt. that is just about as cheap as 2 stroke oil today. they had Yamaha, suzuki, mercury and honda 4 stroke oil. honda amazingly was the cheapest. the parts guy had no recomendations as to one being better than the other. he just felt each manufacturer used a different combination of additives blended to their specifications. i'm sure it is just a valvoline/pennzoil/quaker state thing. they all work.
