Best approach to selling my boat?

I've had this internal debate in my brain raging daily, and the old computer in my noggin has spit out the final answer; the brain's processors are done grinding and have submitted the calculated results: Sell the Scarab.

Well, anyway... I want to get a more modern boat that has an open bow but isn't short on performance. Right now, I see some Checkmate and Baja models (such as the 26' Islander). They have more modern amenities and the wife and kids want an open bow, and they want to tube, and I want performance.

I couldn't even approach the idea to sell this summer as my little recreational time that I had was used for, well... recreation on my boat.

The Scarab is now winterized. So, what's my strategy to sell 'er? Have the ads, photos, etc all ready for March, 2012? Go with internet ads... broker... etc?

As for sea trial, I can't be hauling her to the water on a buyer's whim -- they have to be serious and the sea trial to prove she runs and floats. How do I approach this?

So, I am in Northern Delaware. My boat is trailered. The ramp is 10 minutes away. My boat is a 1996 Wellcraft Scarab 26 (measuring 26.9'). She's got a handbuilt, blueprinted and balanced 502 and a newer Bravo 1. Trailer is in good condition.

Guess my biggest dilemma is that boat shows are great places to get deals, but it doesn't seem like I could sell the Scarab before winter. Well, maybe I could but I guess with Spring 2012 coming up, I'd fetch more. Not sure.

So, feel free to suggest anything from price to strategy, to the 'do's and don'ts.

Always like the advice/input around iBoats.

You are getting danged close to offering her for sale here, Philster. Don't get any closer or we will have to smite you.

I recommend craigslist.

Hate to see it go, "Philster", especially w/ that motor. Any way to modify the front deck into a bowrider? Probably too much BS to go through. Just a thought. Good luck !!!

Don't even think about it till Spring. Have it ready to go. Start with CL cuz it's free. Put one or two pics in your ad using the CL software (just so your ad has the "pics" icon) but post the rest big high quality pictures into your ad linked from Photobucket (or the like). Video would make it even better.

Easy, JB! Just looking for advice.

Will CL let me list her in multiple areas? I know that down South, especially Florida, they love 'em some Scarabs. it's Wellcraft country down there. I remember posting on CL (basic ad one time for a rental) and it wouldn't let me place the ad in multiple areas.

Is eBay a no no?

So, do a sea trial with a purchase offer and deposit?

Don't sell it, just "donate" it to me. LOL. All kidding aside, good luck with the sale. Hope it goes well and you get what you want for her.

Best place to get national attention.
