Hi guys,
I started a new thread on this topic as I wasn't getting any input in my restoration thread.

I have the 3 piece swim platform common on 80's bayliners. I think it is some type of molded plastic.
I have several cracks in various locations and am wondering the best repair method for this.

I'd love to have a shiny new one, but I've got to make due with this one for at least a while.

I've posted some pics of the platform and some of the cracks.
I'm leaning toward some type of plastic "weld" product. I've been reading up on them and they seem like a viable repair. Any advice?
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what the platform is made of.....
Using fiberglass resin and mat/cloth crossed my mind also, but I'm unsure of compatibility with the plastic in the platform.

Any help is greatly appreciated....
Thanks!

Re: Best crack repair for molded plastic swim platform

I had a similar situation on some parts which were ABS plastic. (You'll have to figure out if that is ABS or not. If it is, read on!).

The best thing I found to repair cracks and strengthen stress areas was super glue and fiberglass cloth. I used a little acetone to carefully clean the plastic. Then I sparingly super glued the cracks together. THen I cut little pieces of fiberglass cloth and laid them over the cracks for strength and super glued them on. (The glue will saturate the cloth and weld them to the plastic.) I bought fresh thin CA super glue from a hobby shop. If you can find accelerator that will help.

I also used 3M spot putty, sandpaper, and sprayed the repairs white. You can't see them.

(I found Fiberglass resin would not stick to the plastic.)
