I don’t know much about restoring the color and shine to a fiberglass bass boat. I have a boat, the “paint” has been neglected for at least 10 years ( not washed, polished or touched) feels like a rough sandpaper when I run my hand across. I have wet sanded and it cuts away to a smooth finish and can see the flake in the paint. Just not sure on what product is best for bringing the color and shine back. I know it won’t look brand new, I just want it good enough to not be an eye sore. I’ve heard of “pro-Tec” restoration kit. Is there anything better?

you have two issues going on with your boat

first, the clear over the metal flake has started to peel. the only way to fix that...... sand down and start over

second, once you start sanding into the metal flake, it will never look right. the only way to fix that...... sand down further and re-spray the metal flake.

may want to read this thread from another forum on re-finishing metal flake https://www.boatdesign.net/threads/gelcoating-the-whole-boat-down-to-the-waterline.61694/

Scott Danford - you answered a question I forgot to ask. By the time I sanded it down to a fully smooth surface, I could feel a couple pieces of the flakes sticking up. Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated
