Howdy, Captal.

For performance per buck, I don't think anything touches the Eagle FishEasy.

But. . .when you say 200' of saltwater, I would recommend that you spend a bit more and get the features of the Eagle FishMark 240. The extra resolution and the display options make it worth the extra bux.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

IMHO, It depends on what you are going to use it for. If you just want depth, get one for about $100 (try walmart and get a Eagle) and it will do well. If you want to know your temp, Speed and fine details of the bottom, I would go for one for about $200 to $300 i.e. Lorance x-models or Raetheon(sp).
s/Toby

I have a Hummingbird Wide 3D. It works great when you are dead in the water, drifting or idleing/trolling. Anything faster and it totally cuts out. Not recommended.

I've helped several guys put the Raytheon 265 on saltwater boats. Most converted from Hummingbirds, and all are happy with the 265. West Marine has good prices on them, as do other marine places. It is a dual frequency unit too.

Not knocking all Hummingbirds, but around saltwater, I've never seen one last over a couple of years. I've seen close to a dozen discarded, and the owners switch to other brands.

When I fish I'm sitting still or drifting. If I'm looking for a fishing hole I'm trolling slow. I gave up fishing at 60mph. My humming brid works good for me. When the boats is not in the water, the fishfinder is in the house, not in the garage, should last a long time.

Re: best fishfinder for the money

mrm, not knocking your Humminbird, but most of the guys I fish with leave their boats in the water (saltwater), almost year round.

They will "freshwater wash off" their boats at the end of a fishing day, and most don't cover anything electronic up (most are center consoles), they just shoot it directly with water and let it dry in the sun.

The Garmins, Raytheons, Apelcos, Furunos, etc. hold up to it OK, at least for what I have seen over the past 15 years.

That is the acid test for sure, and not everyone is that rough on their equipment.
