I have a 20' Glastron 205 SF. I am looking for a good GPS/sonar combo with a shoot through hull transducer. I want about a 5" screen, nothing bigger, in color, in the $600 to $1000 range. I was thinking either Garmin or Lowrance. I know a lot of you have these, and I would like to hear what you have and why you chose it. Reading the specs on both systems, they all seem pretty similar.

Yeah, they all do the same thing. Garmin is the leader in this arena. Both my boats came with them, and they work. Good customer support (or so I've heard), and everybody seems to know how they work if you have questions.

Starting out, first unit, I'd make that my choice for those reasons.

I have a Lowrance unit I bought 4 years ago and it performs well too. At the time I wanted to be able to integrate in the fuel flow and get a MPG reading and Lowrance was the only one who offered that at the time.

Go with Garman. I have a Raymarine now but I had a Garman before. The Garmin ismy easyer to use and if you need to buy additional maps, they are easy to find and self install.

My Raymarine I need to reread the manual every year to refresh how to get it to work. Even still it takes 5 screens to get fromhear to there and half the things I still cant figure out.
