Im looking for a hydrofoil for my 60HP but it seems a lot of them come in 2 sizes 0-40HP thats to small and 40HP and up. The larger ones just seem like there two large in my opinion just for a 60HP. The Motor is a 60HP 4cyl and the boat is a 17ft Carolina Skiff Semi V. I am thinking about going with the Doel-Fin But haven't seen them in person.

The besy foil is a set of smart tabs. Friends don't let friends use hydrofoils. Check out the price of smart tabs and you'll decide to go that route. Your outboard is not designed for the extra stress placed by the foil. Check this forum and you'll find the universal opinion of no hydrofoils.

I second what rndn said, I removed my Doel-fin, filled the holes in my A/V plate, installed a set of Smart Tabs SX on my boat, and I have never looked back. I'm up on plane faster, the ride is much smoother, and I picked up a couple mph to boot.
Istallation took lees then an hour (on my boat) and there cust. service is great (in case you have a question).
Smart Tabs are the best thing that I've bought for my boat.

I have used foils as well and they create more problems than they solve. Smart Tabs are the only "inexpensive" way to fly (no pun intended).

If, after what was said above, you still want to try a hydrofoil, I recommend a SE sport brand foil. A SE sport SE300 is what I use, I havent experienced any of the problems that everyone talks about. It works really good for me, and does just what I want it to do. I have experimented with it on and off, no change in top speed, no handling problems. The SE sport sticks out to the rear, over the prop, it does a good job or directing the thrust down and preventing bow rise on takeoff. I pull skiiers from a pylon on a pretty small boat, the bow rise was horrible with out it when pulling a skiier out of the hole. I don't doubt that smart tabs would help that problem too, but they are more $ and installation is harder. Just my $.02 I don't know about any other brands, but on the two boats I have SE sports on I like them.

What you don't see is the added stress it adds to your transom at the mounting point of the engine.... Stress it was never designed for.

I don't think the forces that a foil could put on the transom, or transom mount, are even worth considering, compared to the forces of torque and thrust of even a 60hp outboard. I don't imagine a set of tabs are without the ability to put stress where it wasn't designed for. Thats all I want to say, the OP of this thread just wanted to know about a good foil for his motor.
