Hi- I have an 18 ft 1972 Starcraft Holiday ( aluminum ) with a 140 hp I/O . Whats the ideal kicker size for some trolling in the Columbia River and for back up if the I/O dies ? Sounds like a 9.9 would work well but might have a deal on a 8 hp Honda . Any thoughts ? Thanks

8-15 would be great.

There's a long shaft Evinrude 7.5 on my local CL that's driving me crazy :)

The best...Yamaha T8..... very good..Yamaha T9.9, Honda 8, 9.9......good..most others

It sort of depends on how much you plan to spend, T8's were discontinue this year, but can be found used from $1,200 to $2,000.

My friend and I fished the columbia river last spring and he has a 21' Seaswhirl with a nice Honda 9.9 that worked well when trolling. I would think any high-thrust motor btw 8-15hp would well with your boat on that river.
