Best Line for Casting Reels

Last time I used a casting reel was as a kid in the early 60's. Could still get braided nylon line for them back then. At that time many cautioned against using monofilament on a casting reel because the compressive pressure from the monofilament line would cause spools to implode/explode/deform. Is this still true of modern monofilaments? Of the many different line varieties available today, which are best suited for casting reels? Which should be definitely avoided?<br /><br />I've just resurrected a couple of old Shakespeare Wondereels from the 50's so my question applies the oldies as well as to current production casting reels.<br /><br />My forty year fling with spinning reels is over and I'm going back to my first love. <br />Thanks,<br />Bob

Try a good copolymer line. I like the McCoy meangreen. As far as braided lines they still are available and there are some good ones out there. I like the cabelas Ripcord SI. Though it is a little pricey. Both of these lines work well on my baitcasters.

are you talking about spin cast? Or bait casting reels like the curado Etc? If baitcast,then thats the only one you should be using that and spinning . For braided go with power pro! Best braided line that i have used to date. most mono i use now is berkley sensation or XT for my baitcast and i dont have any problems with it with the reel.

I picked up a SHimano Crestfire a couple years ago.<br />I tried Fireline (fusion line), BIG mistake.<br />IT would bind up.<br /><br />Was told to switch to a mono, 20#, it work well.<br /><br />Put a spool of P-Line braided super line on it this week. It worked ok in the driveway. Will try it on the lake on Saturday.
