Working on a barrelback replica and have running gear running. Next, I need to install the cast iron, so I gotta plumb in a raw water intake. Since I know almost nothing about inboard boats, I need an educated, experienced wonderful person to tell me what location is best. thanks! john bell

you want constant water flow so towards the back on a nice flat area, no strakes or chines nearby. the intake on my boat is a good 12" forward of the exit for the shaft. maybe about 3-4" to the port side. you'll want to make sure you can plumb the hose where it needs to go of course.

you should consider a sea-strainer if you don't have one.

it occurred to me that you probably have a center mounted engine and I am using a v drive that the shaft may exit at a different location. is yours staight inboard? I'm thinking that aft of the shaft exit will be good for the v drive, i am worried abot getting the pick up out of water when on a plane, therefore as far to the rear as possible, about a foot in forward of the prop and to the side about 8 inches. see any poblems? thanks!!

good catch. the ride will be a bit different, not sure how much. i've never seen the pick up on a v drive. you might stop by a dealer and take a look under some of their hulls.

Hell, I am in north east Texas. We don't have inboards or V drives here, it's 300 horse outboards on a 12 foot bass boat or nuttin". These guys are fools for power. fun to watch though. No coast gaurd to watch what they do, I love it. Anyway, I may travel far and finally find a vee drive boat and look, thanks for the advice. john
