I need to replace the bunk boards on my trailer, the 2 long ones are pretty bad, the 2 short ones are pretty good. I'm going to do all of them just because what do most people use? Treated, painted or stained fir, I have stainless staples for the new carpet. This is for a 20' crownline with a 350 merc. I also plan on having them all made up with carrige bolts pre sunk 1/2" or so and a extra disc of carpet on top of bolt head under carpet that wraps them. Then I can just drop them on after I remove the old ones while at the lake. What material do most of you use and does this plan sound okay? Thanks for any input on this.

Re: best material for new bunks

Cedar holds up well, and the carriage bolt heads can be a mother to get out once the new bunks rot. Some lag the bunks on from below. Use nylock nuts to secure the bolts if you go that route.
