Hi all,

So, I haven't been in the market for a new outboard for a while. Hoping there is some good advice out there on a small outboards. I'm looking for a small motor, 2 to 3hp. The application will be for a canoe mostly, but also a small inflatable sometimes. I'm looking at the Honda, which is super lightweight and should be low on maintenance (no water pump). I've had a 2.5 Yamaha in the past which I absolutely loved! And I currently have a 2.5 Suzuki which I absolutely hate! I'm looking to buy my last small outboard and I want it to be a good one.

Should I be concerned with the Honda aircooled motor? I live in Phoenix, like to tool around nice and slow sometimes. If it weren't for that, I would probably jump on the Honda, no issues. The Suzuki I have, 2007 model, never worked well even when brand new, is a huge dissapointment.

Any preferences out there?

If it were me, i would go for a Tohatsu Tohatsu Outboard Motor 2.5hp 4-Stroke

Tohatsu has great quality and is the #1 manufacturer of small outboards in the world. FYI: nissan, mercury, tohatsu and i believe evinrude are all the same motor (tohatsu) in this horsepower range.

I agree on the tohatsu. My buddy has a 3.5 on a small riverhawk and he runs all over the river and even on lake murray in sc which is pretty good sized lake and never had any problems and he is not easy on anything
