Then, how come I've been running the K-Mart 2 stroke oil for 30 years in everything I've owned, chain saws, weed eaters, Tanaka hedge trimmers, Echo blowers, Gamefisher outboards, Mercury outboards & Tohatsu too without ever a problem?
HOW are they under more stress? Let's use my 150hp inline 6 and chain saw as an example. The outboard maxes out at 6000RPMs and says nice and cool from the lake. My chain saw runs at 10,000+ RPMs and can get up to several hundred degrees. Think about it for a minute. Anybody with half a brain can see the smaller engines are pushed much harder and there fore require a differenty type of oil. You might have "never had a problem", however, your engines will/have worn out faster than if you would have used a good oil - I guarantee it. Good oil is too cheap compared to the cost of my equipment. Think about it, how much oil does your weed wacker use in a year? Why not spend an extra $1 and get good oil?

I bought a Poulan chainsaw several years back and used Poulan oil in the little bottles. Just enuff to mix 1 gal. gas to 1 bottle of oil plus has stabilizer in oil and will give gas a shelf life of 5 yraes. I'll stick with Poulan oil for my saw.

2 cents time....Considering the cost to replace an engine or device, why on earth would anyone even consider using anything other than what is intended for the specific lubrication needs of the individual engine? As has been said, small displacement air cooled 2 cycle engines run very hot, and the oil intended for them meets the lubrications needs, as the water cooled 2 cycle oil meets the needs of that particular application. I don't see the difficulty, a person has to buy oil no matter what, so they should buy the oil that is intended for that application. Unless a person has somehow inherited six 55 gallon drums of TCW-3 and is just acking to use it up, using the one oil for everything is a horrid idea.

You got me JasonJ. I think it has to do with the grandpa syndrom. If it worked for him, it will work for me. There are many senarios that I could post, but it wouldnt do any good, some people are going to do what they are going to do by golly, and knowone is going to tell me that what I have been doing for years is wrong and thats that, and you can take your high folutin oils and stick em right you know where. Im usin TC-W3 in everything, and Im usin 30 Weight non detergent too. Afterall, it worked for Grandpa in his model A.

I was wrong on my earlier post. It not 5 years, but will have a shelf life 5 times longer. My manual also states "DO NOT USE 2 CYCLE OIL FOR OUTBOARDS". Only a oil for A/C motors only.

Well, thanks for the education, guys. I went to Autozone and bought some MOBIL1 two cycle synthetic and mixed up 3 gal of gas with the pint of oil. I figure this will last my grandson a good long time and the extra cost won't break me. The motor runs OK and certainly dosn't smoke as much as TCW3. Time will tell. BTW, that little motor does get HOT, as some of the guys said.
