just asking a question but then you get some smart replies went to a dealer and hes said only mercruiser oil then i see different topics on the forum $5.50 for a quart of oil is alot dont you think.......
bamaeddie - the answers are not directed toward you personally, it's just that whenever this question is brought up, there is usually a long drawn out discussion as to who uses what and why. Here's a recent post as an example. (It also contains a link to another example).

Just do a search on this forum (or any boating forum) you'll get a ZILLION answers.
Far more than you'd get by asking the question (because the SAME question gets asked about once a WEEK......every week, every month over and over and over!)
I posted this about a 1000 times now, but here goes again.
If you aren't going to use what the Manufacturer recommends, the use whatever you want. Every oil out there has been used and recommended by someone.
Just change it (and the filter) every 100 hours or yearly as recommended and anything will work.
