Hi. I have a 1971 Johnson 50hp outboard on a 24' pontoon. I'm doing some winter maintainance, and when I pulled the plugs they look like automotive type plugs.

The manual calls for a plug that looks completely different on the electrode end.

I use the boat for trolling 99% of the time. It is usually at idle for the slowest troll possible.

Should I get the plugs the manual calls for, or is there a better plug for constant operation at idle?

Your wisdom is appreciated!
-Spiker

You should be running Champion plug # QL77JC4, available at dealer or walmart for a couple of bucks. Gap it at .040 if you troll alot.

Thanks! Is there an Autolite equivalent? Or is Champion the way to go? Never had any luck with Champions, but if they would be best that's what I'll get.
-Spike

OMC's are designed and do run the best on Champions. I have never had a problem with them and I run the same # plug. Use the Champions!
