I just took my carb off and have it broke down. Before I put it back together I was going to ask what is the best method and product you guys think to get it really clean. Do I need to soak? I was wanting to spray, soak, and then air dry with canned air. What do you guys recommend to do it with as far as products?

thanks

A soak in any decent carb cleaner that is non-corrosive... Go to the boat shop and ask them. Whatever they sell for the job should work fine and be suitable for the boat bits. Then, most importantly, rebuild with brand new carb kit! Try not to re-use the old, replaceable parts.

I just did my carbs last week. I brought them to a machine/tool place that restores old car motors etc. The guy charged me 20 bucks for both carbs and they soaked them overnight in there bath with agitator. Crystal clean now and I didn't have to get rid of the old carb cleaner or even touch the stuff. Just an idea.

Any cast aluminum part such as a carb body can have porosity, so the carb is dipped in a sealer. A carb bath as discribed can remove that sealer causing a possible problem. This does not mean it will happen every time, but it is a possibility. Just use a spray cleaner, and let it soak awhile, then blow out with compressed air.

thanks guys...I will get something this evening. I take it from research that probably the most important thing is to blow out all the jets and small orifices. My float, actually didnt look bad, but I have a carb kit to install so I will change it anyways.

i appreciate the help.

Wal-Mart Super Tech Carb Cleaner, cheapest and one of the best solvents that I have found, 1.25 a can and equal to CRC at over 4.00 a can!

I buy two CASES at a time for the shop.
