Hello, while I was winterizing this year, my hand oil pump gave out and I was not able to drain the engine oil from my 89 Regal 4.3 V6 mercruiser. This has taken forever in years past. Is there a DC powered oil pump that really works available. Or do you use the drain plug in some fashion, cannot get an oil pan under the plug. Will have to wait to spring to change the oil. I always have run the engine up to normal ops temp before changing.
Thanks!

I use a "special" 1.5 quart tupperware container (old sour cream container) thats about 4 inches tall with a lid. I pull the bolt, let 1 quart drain, replace the bolt, put on the lid, and dump the container. Repeat until drained. It's free and not really inconvienient at all.

12 volt pump.....Hook up to your battery and put hose down dip stick tube and pump oil out.

Work's great...Available at any online or boat dealer.

^ this. Bought one this season worked great! Just to be sure I pulled the drain plug when the pump wouldn't pull anymore, bone dry.

I installed a drain tube to the oil pan that feeds out the bilge hole. Here's what it looks like before I actually installed the engine...

You do not need an electric pump if you haave the correct manual pump. When I first did mine, I used the type where you insert the tube into the dipstick tube and it took forever to drain. Now I use the type that screws onto the dipstick tube directly. After the engine is warmed up, I drain the crankcase in just a few minutes (under five). It reall;y took the hassle out of the oil change process. Unless you do oil changes for a living, I think an electric unit is over kill.

You could use a couple ziplock bags... they fit down there and you can form them any way to get the bag out of the bilge. Mine has the hose i put out the drain plug hole. But i use the bags when i am doing the filters... oil and fuel. Goodluck!

Oil Boy by Tempo. Cabellas has them.

Best thing since sliced bread. Works on your car as well. It stores and measures the oil too, so you know how much to put back in. A couple of pumps at the beginning and the oil comes out by itself. Takes a few minutes, so I'll be doing something else in the meantime, like working on the lower unit.

(I couldn't find it on IBoats)

Any idea where a product like this is available? Does the Oil Boy screw onto the dipstick?
thanks everyone!!

Any idea who makes or where these are sold? I wonder if the Oil Boy does this.
Thanks everyone, hopefully this will allow me to finish before dark and not use a case of paper towels!

I am pretty sure I bought mine at West Marine. If they don't have it, try Carolina Boat Outfitters (internet). The one I have is a Jabsco with the brass hose fitting. Jabsco makes other types including the one where you feed the hose down the dipstick (which is total crap). I have had excellent success with Carolina Boat Outfitters. If you go online you can search the catalog or just get their phone number and call them directly. He is the most helpfull sales guy I have run across and will definitly get you the correct pump.

I had one that screwed onto the dipstick. Always found it to be a pita. It required you to pump and pump till it was drained. You had to use a second container to drain it into. Then, it always dripped at the ends so I needed papers on the deck, etc.

I got the oil boy when I bought my first 4-stroke PWC. It didn't have the threaded fitting, so I HAD to stick the tube down the dipstick. When I found that it drained itself and ddin't drip, I started using it on the boat as well. When I put the new oil in I merely pour the old back into the same container so I don't need milk jugs any more. It's just too slick and neat.

I threw the jabso away.
