I'm looking for the "best" repair and maintenance manual for my 1999 OX66's. I've seen the Salec (sp?) service manuals but they don't look all that thorough. Do you guys recommend something better?

I wish RODBOLT had wrote a book on this stuff!!!! :D

Howdy, Mark.

Welcome to iboats. :)

The best Service Manuals for single outboards are almost always the ones produced by the manufacturer (OEM).

The aftermarket manuals do well reminding experienced wrenches and introducing inexperienced wrenches to the basics of a range of outboards but don't have the detail of the single-model OEM Manuals.

I think if you searched up all of Rodbolt's helpful posts you would have a lot more than a book. :)

I wish I could say a yam manual but sometimes they are difficult to read. I have recomended both. usually the seloc has a descriptive narrative at the beginning of each chapter but seem to leave details out. so both may help.
dont look for much "how" it works type info in the jap manuals. best thing is to try to learn how the CCS and SMART system works as well as basic EFI. EFI is EFI and I really dont care what its on. it all has to work about the same.
aboiut the biggest difference is Mass Air Flow and Mass Air Density systems but both do the same function. the O2 sensor has tossed a curve ball at marine techs but its not hard. just takes some test harness's and a willingness to learn how to use and interpet a DVM. I fixed a 305 TBI merc today that I told the other tech what was wrong yesterday just by listening to the motor.even though he argued the puter says its all good the motor idled at 1800 RPM and all you could hear was air through the IAC. the computer only monitors signals not mechanical positions. all the circuits were good just the pintle would not move.took 10 min to confirm the diagnosis and replace the defective IAC. total time on board about 30 min.

I just bought the SELOC for $30 and was very impressed how much info & detail it has.
