I replaced the rubrail insert on my 23 ft Wellcraft Excalibur yesterday
Did the reading. Everyone said what a pain in the a@@ it was.

Standard type 5 insert

Started out with the old heat gun, putty knive thing and man what a pain that was.

After about 2 feet I decided I had to find another way.

I had been re screening some of the panels on my pool lani over the past week and remembered I had a screening tool laying around.
Tried it out

IT WAS GREAT

Place the bottom of the rail in the track, run the screening tool along the top of the insert and apply pressure behind the area that is being inserted.
Had all 51 feet installed within 30 minutes....

This is a must have tool for anyone that has to do this job.

Hope it helps

Cool!

It's called a spline tool and is available from Lowes for about 5 bucks.

I've got three of these. Never occurred to use it for rub rails.
Excellent tip.

Did you use the concave or convex end/wheel of your splining tool?

Screening tool or splining tool? Why are you guys calling that rubrail tool a screening tool. That picture is a rub rail driver.

Are you kidding? That's a double ended cutter for personal pan pizzas.

That is how we install the rubber bumper rail on refrigerated cases in the grocery stores.we also found that if it is sunny out we lay the coil of material
out on the asphalt drive to warm it makes the install much easier. still have
sore hands after putting in a few hundred feet.

Maybe I'll make a bigger version for putting the caps back on boats! That's a tool I could use!

I just removed/reinstalled my rubrail today...no tool, just sore fingertips. I will say that a heat gun does make the job a lot easier, but my fingers were a little warm...
