your gonna need all that plus:

a sawzall, a BFH, respirator, dremel would be nice,
hole saw, i used a garden hoe to break the old foam into chunks, chainsaws work well in certain situations, i dont know what your thinking on beveling, i left a 2 inch lip or so around the perimeter of the hull, and screwed and glued the new floor over the top of it, after all were only talkin a difference of the thickness of the lip. you just have to take that into account when measureing thje height of the new stringers.

i am sure thers more, but its been a couple weeks since i worked on my boat, i dislocated my shoulder and broke my collarbone so i been laid up for a week or so. And my memory is as long as my D__K so i cant remember :)

A 4.5 inch angle grinder is a good tool along with a 7 inch but you can do it all with the small 1. You should plan on a lot of discs. about 20-25. Harbor freight is a cheap place if you have 1 locally.

That circular saw will be good set it for 1/2" and carefully cut along the edges of the floor NOT THE HULL!

A shovel works well to pry up the old foam. :D

Re: best tool list for replacing floor and transom ....

how about i do it my self ,,,with my half brain and your help i can acomplish anything ...im using epoxy with a 207 special hardener ,,,,today i baught a 10 pack of 7 tooth perinch saws all blades 6 inch long ,,,,now some people are saying i should have baught the longest blades i could have gotton,,,,,,,,,i baught 20 cuttoff disks for my flex shaft dremel that i love,,,,,,,i baught a plywood blade for my skill saw 7 1/4 ,,,,,a grinding wheel [big] about 7+ inches ,,,a bulk pack of jig saw blades ,,,,,,,,ive got every prybar known to man.....i was looking at the wood clamps and they all seemed in adequate......i baught a couple of books and my plan was to cut it all out taking measurments first and trying to save what i could for tracing out new parts......making a cardboard jig in the shape of the transome and cutting 2 plywood sheets to match ,,,bonding them with epoxy ,,,setting them against inside of dug out/cleaned transom, drilling stern drive bolt holes, epoxying with fairing powder all to transom using bolt holes[bolts and screws] to hold wood firm against inside fiberglass[[how do i get the bolts to not be epoxied in]].....then tabbing to the hull wall ,and using only fiberglass cloth and epoxy,, this new talk of layering has me groaning ...i thaught you could just use 1 layer of 18 ounce cloth and epoxy to do all the fiberglassing .......then mixing a batch of epoxy with fairing powder, then use it to attach the stringers to the hull ,,then attach the floor etc ,,,im picking up tips but not creating roadblocks in my mind......

Re: best tool list for replacing floor and transom ....

Bigbad I see a lot of people here whom I.M.H.O. go way overboard on the fiberglass reinforcement.
I see then using 4 layers of cloth/or mat to glass in a stringers, floors and bulkheads. If you use the correct amount of epoxy you will not need all that much glass. Epoxy is the cement and the glass is the reinforcement. You dont see the contruction guys filling up colums with ungodly amouts of rebar so you can barely add concrete.

Mat was not meant for epoxy. And to top it off epoxy is about twice as strong as Poly. I feel if you use the least amount of glass to do the job your fine.

To glue wood to wood or fiberglass use epoxy and glass fibers the longer the stronger. YOu should use a small amount of cabosil to stabilize the epoxy so it does not run out.

Fillet all angles where you want to add glass such as stringers. To get the glass to lay flatter it is sometimes easier to brush the tops of the stringers with epoxy then lay your cloth, remember the fillets will reduce the 90 degree angle and help get a better bond.
2 layers of 10oz or better should be enough. I have seen people here who lay five or six layers
to me thats way overkill but they have their peace of mind.

Best tool you will need is a fiberglass roller.
this will push the fabric into the epoxy and help remove air bubbles.

Re: best tool list for replacing floor and transom ....

you mean the thin single wheel thing .....i got about 20 small epoxy/mohair rollers and about 14,,, 7 inch mohair rollers ...i was told to do 1 layer of thick cloth on a virgin piece of wood letting it soak the wood and the cloth at the same time for the best bond ,,,not multiple staggard layers ......as well as to add the correct powders for the correct application /cosistancy,,,,,ie fairing powder.....more layers = more weight ...im still learning.....

Hey dude, a chainsaw and a shovel is all ya need. Just cause ya never did it before, doesnt mean ya can't. This whole boat demolition stuff is new to most of us anyway, right?

All of the mentioned tools will require using trial and error to apply them to this kind of project anyway.

Do a search and read up on it. Practice on a piece of wood, keep your arms tense when using, keep your face away and use a saftey shield.

chainsawevin
