Sorry, I assume this question has been asked a gazillion times but I couldn't find anything specific.

Just curious what others are using as far as wax goes for their painted aluminum hulls?

I own a 2006 Lowe F&S and have used Collinite 845 Insulator wax the last couple years with good results.
It seems to last a while and you can definitely tell the boat has been waxed after using it.
Just curious what others use, and does it really matter if I am using a automotive type wax for my application?
Thanks.

My truck has an aluminum body and it really doesn't matter.

Wax might give you short term protection. Had a 14' polished Starcraft for 8 years. I go around it twice a season with a SOS pad. Something in the soap seems to slow down the oxidation. My pix are posted on the polished aluminum thread. It is outside 365 days a year, used in saltwater sometimes!

Why not???

I did do a Google search and came up with a ton of hits on waxing a painted aluminum boat, nothing on the pitfalls of doing so???

Re: Best wax for painted aluminum?

Wax is crap..

Your not waxing the Alum..your waxing the paint. So I dont care if its alum or FG .. its the Paint your waxing.

All of this Waxing is not needed nor required. Keep putting that wax crap on any surface ( cars or boats ) .. you better keep that thing Indoors !

Google Wax Vs. Sealers.

I know most Iboaters dont use Awlgrip/Awlcraft. Awlgrip states on their website if you use Wax it will VOID the warranty!..

Why .. because wax is only a sacrificial coating that either burns itself up ( More wax needed for this shiny surface .. again and again..year after year ) or it becomes so neglected that it degrades to the point of really starts to Hammer the Substrate beyond a buff out ( wetsand or wax strip needed at this point ).

If you dont trust your Base Paint to do its job..long lasting luster and shine ..and you are now trusting the Wax to protect the paint...think about it ..

Wax is NOT good..

Sorry, but I have to disagree, especially when it comes to automotive paints.

Not sure what else one can do to help with UV and fade protection other than a good wax?
I never googled your sealant idea but I have heard horror stories about selants, not wax and polish.

Also that company you stated about voiding their warranty, what kind of paint/clear coat do they use, is it the same as all other car/boat paints??
Not likely, so to blanket state not to use wax on boat or cars is way wrong imo, especially to those with red paints on either.

So your suggesting that Auto paint or Marine paint Itself is not UV protected in its Base or Clear ? .. From the Factory finish BCCC needs a Helper of UV protection .. WAX ? ..

Google it up ..wax does not micro seal Anything .. its just a sacrificial coating your putting on your paint/gel whatever..

Also that company you stated about voiding their warranty, what kind of paint/clear coat do they use, is it the same as all other car/boat paints??

Awl Grip VS. Stirling .. or Imron VS. Awlcraft2000 is the same stuff. Its LPU or EA . No..its not the Same.

High end Marine or High end Auto .. Different ( we dont Bake 53' Boats mate ).

Apples to Oranges ..

You should buy a QT of the LPU Awl-grip and spray that on something .. tell me you dont notice a difference ..

Awl-Grip will Void the warranty if you Wax..

I can say for 100% that if you start putting some Crap wax or Col**e wax sealer on your gel your in for a Yearly Buff out.

Talking Paint though.. why would you wax ?? what would you wax it with .. please tell me What product you would put on a fresh coat of Ilux Pro or Bright or any other kind of Car paint ..

YD.
