Best way to clean carpet

After spending most of this summer doing repairs on my boat, I finally got to take it out yesterday. It ran great but now I have a new issue. My carpet is full of grease and oil stains and I'm wondering what is the best way to clean this up. The carpet is a permanent style. I'm not sure if it matters, but it is a 1992 regal valanti.
What has worked for other members?

When I got my boat the carpet was like that all I could do was change it out. Tried cleaning it shampooing it nothing worked at leased on mine did not work.
Plus feet would be filthy at the end of the day. Not hard to change out but getting the old glue off was a real pain.

Spray a cleaner called Purple Power(Walmart- about $5/gallon) on dirty carpet and then brush the cleaner into the carpet....let it sit for a while...then use a spray garden hose to rise it. Bright hot sunshine and the boat tilted up as much as possible to allow draining and drying. That Purple Power is a great de-greaser for lots of applications...
