I am ready to lift my 1994 omc cobra 50 out of my boat. Is there a "best way" to attach/secure the motor to the hoist for lifting? Thanks.

Assuming it's a Cobra 5.0L.
There should be a lifting eye on the front of the starboard head. and another on the back side of the port head.
There is also a lifting eye over the thermostat housing DO NOT USE IT TO LIFT ENGINE.
It's only there for lifting the front of the engine for alighment purposes.

I usually will pull 4 corner manifold bolts out and replace them with some long grade 8's that I have lying around. Depending on what i'm lifting and why i'll run the extra long bolts right through some chain or through my tilter/leveler.

I would use the proper eyes as per Don S recommendation. My marina thought they knew better and used straps under the sump and the engine moved off the mounts and slipped forward, smashing the sump through the bottom of the boat. Sump was smashed, so was the inner liner of the boat, but thankfully not the hull.

GM / Merc / VP put those eyes on those positions for one purpose, use them and don't let anyone convince you otherwise!

I wouldn't let those guys touch my lawnmower, let alone my boat! Gross incompetence!

Well I used the eyes that Don suggested and that worked flawlessly.

Now the next challenge. When putting the motor back on the mounts I can't seem to get the motor all the way back on the rear mounts. It seems to get stuck on the last inch it needs to move. Any ideas what might be in the way?

Thanks to everyone on this forum. I could never have done this without this forum.
