OMC 5.7L, can't find the model number anywhere, but it is salt water cooled, carbed, and conventional ignition.

Found water in the oil after running it for a short time at the dock. I would like to pressurize the block's cooling passages, I'm assuming to do this I would take the hoses off that go to the manifolds or risers and block them off. Other than that I could just take a hose off of the thermostat and hook up a pressure gauge to it. Does that sound right? I know I won't just have the reading from the block but also the heads as well but is there any other way to see if the block is cracked other that testing it this way?

You can remove the hoses that run to the exhaust manifolds at the engine. Then put a U shaped jumper hose from side to side. That closes the discharge. Then you need to remove the hose that comes from the water pump in the foot to your thermostat housing and rig up your tester there.

a leak down test might be best. Look at plugs first.

OOPs Again. I took to long to type. do what they say. ( they really are better) :)

Ok I think I'm good, the water might have gotten into the oil some other way. I took out the plugs and they were in normal condition, there was no water and they weren't clean like they were cleaned with water. I did a block pressure test with the engine both hot and cold and no leak on either. I changed the oil about 3 times and got it as clean as I could. I took the boat for a hard test run and the oil stayed clean and at the same level.

I don't know how the water could have gotten in there other than going down the carb but then I would think it would be on the pistons as well, but its a boat so who knows.

Has water ever filled up into the bilge to the crankshaft level?

How old are your manifolds/risers?
