I have a 1995 wellcraft Martinique. It has about 15% of the barrier coat peeled off from when I pressure washed the hull. It appears the boat was not sanded prior to barrier coat application. What is the best way to strip barrier coat ? sand blast, soda blast. dustless blast or chemical stripper. forget hand sanding two square foot took me one hour with 40 grit on a da sander. thanks for your input.

The coating that did come off, what did it look like? Did it appear it was bad in one or two areas or is it coming off in strips. I do take it that we are not talking about bottom paint and/or ablative coating, this is barrier coat

Just had a friends' 54ft. Carver done. The paint and barrier coat were sand blasted off the boat, then re-applied new. Quickest most efficient way to remove the old layers, including barrier coat.

Just wanted to make sure it was barrier coat. With that I will agree soda blasting is quickest but is real easy to go past the gel coat. I would also add, that I would only remove the barrier coat were the adhesion is not strong. Why take off paint that takes a hour to remove a small area. The areas where the coating does come off easier check to make sure there isn't moisture present in the hull

Thanks for your input, this is the first time I have seen barrier coat release like this. It seems the boat was not prepared properly. If you don't have time to do the job right, someone else has to fix it.
