I have a party interested in buying my boat engine. I'm in VA and he's in MN. What's the best way to ship the engine and how can both parties be secure in the sale and purchase? (I get paid and he gets the engine)

Thanks,
JD

He pays, cash or electronic transfer, you send.

Depends on the size of the package.
FedEx freight has decent rates.
ABF.com ABF freight is pretty competitive on larger items. Completely crate or box the item, and have him inspect on delivery for damage before he signs the bill of lading.

Escrow services are an option, but any complaints may tie up your money for a long time. And may force you to lower your price in order to settle the complaint, or leave you responsible for shipping damage.

That's fine for the seller, but why should the buyer trust him? A third party needs to be involved like on an Paypal Ebay transaction. The Escrow recommendation is a good one. You can still ship and have the item insured for its worth. The third party guarantees that the transaction goes through by having both your credit cards listed with them and is insured for the transaction. A small fee is involved, but both parties are assured of a clean hassle-free transaction.
