Hi Guys,

Is there any danger with running a prop that does not produce the recommended 5500 rpms?

My prop is currenly a 19 pitch prop. I know 17 would be better but I would rather hold off until next year.

- Mike

You are supposed -and advised- to run a prop that keeps you within the recommended range at wot - in your case 5000-6000? So if you reach 5000 you're OK - even for extended running. Switching to 2" less will add 400 rpm and give you better hole shot, approx same top end and a little easier running overall.

Generally:
If your boat setup allows you to get on plane fairly quick and you can reduce throttle some 30% and still have a clear plane, I'd say this is OK until you get a proper rpm/prop match.
