Bf90 model number question

Very new to boating and trying to understand a my Honda 90. The first 4 letters are BBBU which shows that it would be from 1998. Why does it say it is has 2006 EPA standards?

That sticker has created a lot of confusion. The story is that the engines with that sticker on them met the 2006 standards - obviously way earlier than necessary. Apparently somebody in Honda marketing was pretty proud of that fact.....

The other thing is, Honda is NOT real good about associating model years with engine runs. As it works out, it's not that big a deal as far as obtaining the correct parts as very few changes are made in them on a year by year basis. For instance, your BBBU, depending on the numbers following, could be anywhere from a '95 to a 2002. Makes no difference though as the engines are pretty much identical that whole time.....
