Big Battery Problems

I have a Yamaha 100 Four Stroke. The battery died so I decided to use the battery from my yamaha 25 Four Stroke. When I cranked it the battery smokes and smoke came out of the motor cowling. What Happened?

SOunds like your starter is fried. Could also be an underpowered(low amperage) battery. Bad thing to do. you over stress the winding in the starter motor. Then the end of the windings that are soldered/braized in the starter begin to come loose.<br /><br />Course the cylinders could be hydraulicly "locked" if fuel flooded the cylinders. Can you turn the motor by hand?
