Started our inaugural kickball season off tonight with a bang. As I was going to first base, I dug deeper for a little extra speed. My hamstring said no and down I went onto my arm where I did a roll, got back up and proceeded to first base. Their overthrow sent me to second. At that point I needed a pinch runner.

Fast forward to he emergency room where I was informed that I broke my arm in three places and will have a cast from just below the shoulder to the tips of my fingers. First time I ever broke a bone. They are saying 6-8 weeks.

I have a new dock to put in, got get my boat launched and was planning a kitchen remodel. Looks like I will be doing a lot of one handed typing.

This will be very interesting as I am used to doing most of his stuff myself and will definitely be hampered..

Ya but... you can still be a pinch runner in the kickball games. :)

Sorry for the injury news, especially now that there is open water.

BTDT, 3 times, shoulder, hand, ankle.

The good news is that this will be the best planned kitchen ..... ever.

Re: Big dent in my summer plans

just keep praying for an extended spring. nothing makes you more crazy than the sweating and itching inside a cast. it goes by fast, 3 places broken is a tough one. Worst I had was 12 weeks for a shattered ankle. had lots of 6-8 weekers for various broken bones. BTW don't get crazy and remove the thing yourself. it's never good, yep did that too, then proceded to rebreak a not completely healed hand. LOL Live and learn.

BTW: the good part is now you get to sit on the bench and be designated beer drinker while chatting up the ladies at the game. ooh does it hurt much?........

Keep your spirits up. at least you'll still have some summer left when the cast comes off.

Roger, i know how you feel. I broke my foot two years ago New Years eve and I am a big snowmobiler. Had tons of snow here in the northeast that year and all I did was a lot of couch riding. It will go buy fast, good luck!

Why do breaks come at the worst times! I broke my ankle right when water ski season was starting, and my wrist when off road season was starting.

I hope your hs is ok. The bright side, you should be all good for the July 4th week

Are y'all gonna' have summer in Minnesota this year? I was thinking it got cancelled ;)

Sorry about the arm, Rogers. It's a crumby way to start the season off. Hope it heals quickly and completely.

Re: Big dent in my summer plans

When exactly is a good time to break a bone? Please let me know!

lol, true, but I said they come at the worst times. There's never a good time, and in my case if I'd have broken the ankle before my off-road season, I could have still ridden my bike or driven my Bronco within a couple of weeks. If my wife had broken her neck one day later than she did, I would have been married a year longer now ;)

Okay Roger, let's get serious about this and look at the bright side. You could always buy some CSM and some 1708 fiberglass mat and a quart or two of epoxy resin and coat your cast with those things after you placed a good hammer head at the end of it and some sand-paper embedded into the cast as well. Then you can hammer nails and sand the wood smooth and proceed with both the dock build and the kitchen remodel. What's the problem...? That way you?ll never lose the hammer or need a block sander either...
Sorry to hear your predicament, but don?t let a crisis go to waste (where have I heard that before...?). Play it up for all you can while you can... Sure hope you get to healing fast... :D  :yo:

Got lucky, they only put on a forearm cast and my elbow in a sling. Will make dressing and other things easier.
