I have a 2007 4 stroke 25hp Mercury that had been running 5500 RPM. Earliar this week on the lake, after a fill up and 2 oz. of stabill, I dropped to 5000 Rpm.... Hit some turbulant water and it bounced back to 5500. Went out again and could only get 4200 to 4800 RPM...which of course slows my speed. Engine runs smooth... I just lost my RPMs. Plugs were changed in January and still look good. Funny it happened after a fill up and stabill treatment. Runs smooth as ever, just not the power I have been ecustomed too for the past year.

Tryed changing out the gas....made a run down the lake, came to 5200 rpm and zilch. Motor locked down completely. Could not even pull the pull chord and the ignition would not turn the motor over. No smoke, skip, bells, whistles, no signs of distress and no warning at all. Motor has always run great and started great. Oil is clean and looks good. Nothing around the prop or shaft. Any ideas?

Re: Big problem with 25 hp 4 stroke merc

i am not into 4 stroke outboards, but with years of repairing motors
2 and 4 stroke,i have only used stabil in gas that was going to be stored
for a long time.
but i retired in 03, so i am probably way out of date.

you might try higher octane gas, or add some lead.

GOF said that---lol:p

Depending on when you purchased this motor, it may still be covered under the factory three year warranty. My advise... get it to a dealer.
